Indigent Defense Attorney

About the Office:
Umpqua Valley seeks a passionate and qualified person for a full-time staff attorney. We are a close-knit, thirteen-lawyer public defender’s office in Western Oregon located close to Eugene and Medford. Must be member of Oregon State Bar at time of hire, or a member in good standing of a Bar who can readily receive comity into the Oregon Bar. Caseload will be a mixture of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases with opportunities and training for professional growth. Job Description:
Represent clients with cases which may include complex or significant charges, draft legal motions, direct the focus of investigative efforts, ensure the client is able to make informed choices regarding whether to go to trial or take a plea, and take cases to trial when the client so directs.

Qualifications:
Knowledge required regarding: Legal principles, procedures, terminology, forms and legal analysis substantive and procedural criminal (statutory and constitutional), civil including civil forfeiture laws, child support laws, administrative regulations and case law administrative hearings, courtroom and trial procedures including state, federal, trial and appellate courts and Oregon rules of evidence; investigative techniques, scientific laboratory analysis techniques and procedures for case preparation.

Rehabilitation Technology Specialist with Training Focus

Youth Services Worker
Job Location: Des Moines, IA
About the Office:
The Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) is seeking an energetic and passionate Youth Services Worker for its Young Adult Transition Program for blind youth. The greatest reward in this position is watching youth learn to do more for themselves and increase in their independence and self-determination. Ideal candidates will possess a belief in the capacity of blind persons, a strong work ethic, patients, and the ability to connect with and motivate youth. IDB can provide training in the specific blindness skills areas listed if needed. New Youth Services Workers typically start at the listed salary minimum.

The Young Adult Transition Program is a school-year-based residential program for youth who have finished high school, but who need additional instruction in order to participate in post-secondary learning and employment opportunities. During the summer, Youth Services Workers work with IDB’s summer program for youth ages 14-21.
Initial staff training and other agency meetings will take place during regular business hours Monday through Friday. Individual Youth Services Worker’s schedules will then be set with the Program Administrator to provide appropriate coverage to meet students’ needs. While total coverage is split between all Youth Services Workers so exact schedules vary, work hours will generally consist of early morning, evening, and weekend hours to work with students outside of classes. Youth Services Workers must be comfortable with working primarily outside of business hours.

- Provide Workplace Readiness, Self-Advocacy, and Disability-Related skills training to blind youth in comprehensive residential training programs such as the Young Adult Transition Program and LEAP Program.
- Work with students on increasing their independent living skills in areas such as developing and managing their morning and evening routines, managing personal hygiene, maintaining clean and organized living spaces, completing laundry and other common household tasks, shopping for groceries and other needed items and planning and preparing their own meals.
- Support student learning through providing supplemental braille, technology, cane travel and money management instruction, in particular by working with students to utilize these skills in their daily lives outside the classroom.
- Facilitate students’ development of age-appropriate social skills through activities on and off campus. Assist students in traveling to and participating in activities in the community for recreation, volunteering and employment. Reinforce proper cane technique and other nonvisual skills during these activities.
- Serve as a role model for students in the use of nonvisual techniques and problem-solving skills.
- Monitor student behavior and the students’ living areas. Provide appropriate supervision to ensure student safety.
- Document student progress through monthly and end of program reports. Collaborate with program staff and supervisor to address student needs and concerns.
- Promote a positive philosophy of blindness through involvement in trainings and community outreach events for parents, educators and other service providers as directed.
Essential functions of this position:

Job Description:
The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska is seeking applications from experienced attorneys who have superb research and writing skills as well as a criminal law background to fill Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) vacancies in the Criminal Division. The successful candidate primarily will be responsible for handling the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes. The USTP is seeking an attorney experienced in litigation practice and bankruptcy law to oversee bankruptcy cases filed in the federal judicial districts covered by the region and/or field office, litigate enforcement matters on behalf of the Program, oversee private trustees, handle appellate matters, and refer criminal conduct identified in connection with bankruptcy case oversight. The City Bar Justice Center (CBJC) seeks an experienced and multi-skilled attorney committed to expanding access to justice to join us as Director of CBJC’s Legal Clinic for the Homeless. This position reports principally to CBJC’s Executive Director, and to the Director of Legal Services on an ad hoc basis.
The Legal Clinic for the Homeless (LCH) provides advice, advocacy, and representation to individuals and families in shelter and those who have left shelter to secure public benefits that are vital tools to prevent and alleviate poverty. LCH partners with and trains attorneys at law firms, corporate legal departments and other entities to provide pro bono services to LCH clients, with the project’s services focused on contesting denials, reductions, and discontinuance of Cash Assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Medicaid benefits; advocating for families denied shelter; and ensuring the issuance of rental assistance supplements. LCH staff and pro bono partners also advocate with community organizations, other legal services providers, and the City Bar on issues such as expanding WiFi access for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness and improving access to and expanding the public benefit safety net.
CBJC provides high-quality, free civil legal services benefiting over 25,000 New Yorkers each year who lack the resources to hire private counsel. With a staff of about 40, CBJC also relies on expansive partnerships with law firms, corporate legal departments, the courts, the City Bar, and other stakeholders. In FY22-23, more than 1,800 pro bono attorneys donated services to support legal services clinics and client matter work drawn from CBJC’s dozen civil legal services projects.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey is seeking an experienced attorney to serve in the Civil Division handling primarily defensive cases. The open period for this position is currently being extended. The National Institute on Aging (NIA), Intramural Research Program (IRP), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), has recently established the Alzheimer and Related Dementia Independent Scholars (ARDIS) Program within the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (CARD), located in Bethesda, MD. CARD is a collaborative initiative between the NIA and National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) that supports basic, translational, and clinical research on Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD). CARD’s central mission is to initiate, stimulate, accelerate, and support research that will lead to the development of improved treatments and preventions for these diseases.
The ARDIS Program provides an exciting and well-supported opportunity for early career researchers to transition to an independent investigator position. The ARDIS Program provides early career researchers a term limited independent Principal Investigator (PI) appointment, generous resources, and access to research cores and infrastructure within CARD and the broader NIH IRP. Job Description:
Scholars in the ARDIS Program will be appointed as Research Fellows (FTE), with a time-limited appointment of three (3) years. ARDIS Scholars will be independent, non-tenure track PIs. Duties include:
- Manages international political transition crisis operations, including identifying potential risks and developing interventions that mitigate potential threats;
